Inspired by user research conducted amongst students on College Hill (Brown University + RISD), eatup is a mobile application that utilizes social media and geo-technology to connect users with one another over food.

The insight - gathered through user research - along with the context of existing lifestyle habits of millennials were utilized to create a mockup that capitalized on the intersections of food, technology and social interaction.

External research highlight the physical, psychological and social attributes of eating with others.

(Eating together) reduces people’s perceptions of inequality, and diners tend to view those of different races, genders, and socioeconomic backgrounds as more equal than they would in other social scenarios.

Lead by insights provided by users of the initial prototype, a demographic analysis (a sample size of 200 students) was framed to understand the comprehensive dietary and social needs of students residing on College Hill. The analysis was followed by another focus group, guiding the iteration process of the final product. The following data sets are interactive.

Who do you prefer to eat with?

Would you share a meal with an acquaintance?

How do you arrange to eat with people?

What motivates you eat with others

Do you make a conscious effort to eat with others?

Would you be interested in meeting new people through eating together?
